Mid Suffolk is centrally located in a predominantly agricultural
area full of timber framed buildings and magnificent churches. Its
most famous artist John Constable painted the local way of life
during the 18th century and Flatford Mill is 15 miles to the south.
Ipswich (9miles east) and Bury St. Edmunds are the two main towns
both dating back to the Saxons. Places of interest in Ipswich are
Christchurch Mansions, the historic docks and the Unitarian Meeting
House built in 1699 which has a magnificent interior.
In Bury St. Edmunds the Green King Brewery museum and the Georgian
Royal Theatre are worth a look. The Abbey Gardens and Cathedral
are a pleasant place to stroll and nearby Ickworth House run by
the National Trust is on the outskirts of the town.
Another place to visit is Lavenham (7 miles to the west) an old
wool market town with a splendid timber framed Guildhall again owned
by the National Trust.
